    VG CONDITION, HARDCOVER
    R. Zadok ha-Kohen of Lublin (1823–1900), hasidic zaddik, born in Kreuzburg (Krustpils), Courland. Having received a halakhic education by Lithuanian rabbis, he became a Hasid after meeting with the rabbis of Poland on a private matter (the permit "Me'ah Rabbanim") and became a disciple of R. Mordecai Joseph Leiner of Izbica Lubelska. He wrote a number of works and was a profound exponent of Hasidism, with a special bent for historiosophy. His knowledge of halakhah enriched his hasidic teachings and gave his thought a basis in halakhic sources. On the other hand, he illuminated halakhah with kabbalistic and mystical elements, thus giving the subjects he treated a new dimension.
The principal subjects of his teaching include the affinity between the Oral and Written Law, the merits of the scholars, and the importance of the holidays. His works on Hasidism on these subjects are: Zidkat ha-Zaddik (1902), Dover Zedek (1911), Mahashavot Haruz (1912), Resisei Laylah (1913). His sermons were collected in five volumes entitled Peri Zaddik (1901–34).
