With an original copyright date of 1935,
this is the classic series for Hebrew instruction produced by the Jewish Education Committee of New York just before the establishment of Israel in 1948. Considered one of the ancient languages on par with Greek and Latin, Hebrew was also seen as a "modern" language for it served as the vernacular of the new Jewish settlements in Palestine, both in the home, the school and the market place. The revival of Hebrew as a living language meant teaching it throughout the Diaspora as an increasing number of young people and adults sought to learn the language. It is this series created by Simha Rubinstein and Harry Kessler that succeeded in making lessons interesting with the primary aim of reading Hebrew with fluency and enjoyment.
These two books are approaching 80 years of age and have been part of our family's Jewish book collection. They are in exceptional condition, with each book having about a dozen pages with some pencil notations (that can be easily erased). They show normal age related wear and are in very good condition. The spines are intact and there are no loose pages.
