DESCRIPTION:
Offered is this gorgeous and very well-preserved, now nearly
50 year old,
mid-20th century
Navajo,
Native
Ame
ri
can,
wheel-thrown and hand decorated,
large 10 1/4" in diameter
glazed ceramic charger. It features a central medallion motif of a
flying eagle, soaring high above the desert floor, seen peppered with a ring of seven Peyote button cacti.
The view of the
eagle
and of the ground is a bird's eye view, seeing the top of the
eagle
with outstretched wings, knifing through the air above the
Peyote button cacti
on the ground far below it. The large ceramic charger is a full
10 1/4" across
and features soft bone white, deep olive green, black and carmine red. The
eagle's
realized with a white outline of its flying profile, imposed upon a mottled field of hand applied carmine red, with ragged edges. Seven
peyote buttons
surround the
eagle
on the charger basin's perimeter, also with a ragged black edge. Signed
'Mang, USA, Peyote Platter, Prime Line, 73-74
' in white line over black on the back. Absolutely beautiful. No condition issues. Terrific. Stunning. Imbued with Native

culture and symbolism. From outside of the
Western
lexicon and
European
influenced understanding of the world. This is a celebration of the spiritual quietude of nature and the timelessness and order of the natural world. Fresh and nearly alive with the spirit of the artist who created it. Magnificent.
