Set Upgraded 11/27/2020 - Now With EIGHT colors!!!
Currently, this Rheinberg filter set is available in only the most common diameter, that being 32mm (approximately 1.25 inch) for Zeiss standard. Measure your typical filter, such as a daylight blue or neutral density, and
    confirm
your diameter. Our current microscope is an
    Omax
where the filter tray is directly below the condenser. If you have a similar tray/condenser arrangement on an
    Omax
or any other microscope, then this filter set is for you!
Pictured, you see a complete filter set. You might not get this exact 'hue' due to available color materials (not to mention the
    'temperature
' influence of your monitor). But you will get the same color assortment - and we always add specialty disks such as oblique filters. With this set you can mix center stops and annulus rings to give you unlimited color combinations
(well, almost unlimited - for you mathematicians out there)
. You can overlay combinations of annulus rings, center stops, solid filters, and even oblique filters, to achieve your desired effect.
    Are these highest quality optical
    glass
filters like those used at the CDC or Mayo Clinic?
    Heck No!
    You would pay about .00
    each
for just a solid optical glass filter, if you can find them - never mind stops and annuli!. This is an affordable collection for the serious amateur, university student, or even creative professional - in thin, but
    sturdy
, plastic assortment. You simply cannot purchase ready-made optical glass cut into rings in this wide assortment of colors. Therefore, we highly recommend these which are hand cut from various plastic laminates, filter materials, and adhesive films.
What is in a typical set that you are purchasing? You will receive 8 each solid filters, matching annulus rings, and matching center stops in the colors shown. You will also receive three sizes of black center stop filters which give you Darkfield for several objectives, depending upon your microscope setup. Also included in each set are 3 oblique filters of
    various
    designs
and 4 more center stops of various sizes and/or different hues.
At least 34 filters in all!
Instructions are also included to get you started.
Included are the colors Red, Green, Pink, Blue, Orange, Raspberry (New), Yellow, and Purple.
How the Rheinberg effect is created: The “center stop” determines the background color, and the overlay "annulus ring" influences the subject color. These are placed BELOW the condenser - in the filter tray. In this offering, you see Kosher salt grains with the center stop of dark blue with green oblique lighting from the annulus. Sugar crystals were shot with a purple stop and a light green annulus. Don't forget our filters are stackable - to increase density or create new colors. Just keep the illumination bright and condenser all the way up, close to the subject. It is that easy!
A black center stop gives you a Darkfield effect. The photo of the daffodil pollen was taken in darkfield. Using darkfield your subject has a natural color against a black background. But some very interesting combinations can be made with the annulus rings such as demonstrated in the second photo of daffodil pollen! Again, a dark stop was used, but this time the side lighting (from the annulus) was light blue.
If you've never used Darkfield at all, then you are in for a treat because without Darkfield you can hardly see many things. Most micro life is clear. Suddenly vorticella, paramecium, rotifers, ciliates, and all sorts of microorganisms pop out in brilliant whiteness against the dark background.  Even with low magnifications bacteria can sparkle in the background!
Technical Stuff: These center-stops and overlay rings work fantastically using 4x, 10x, and possibly 20x
    objective
lenses (no guarantee on the 20x).  Using a 10x objective or less will always give you very great results. If you want a Darkfield effect using higher-powered objectives, you generally have to use a special Darkfield condenser which is
    not
part of this offering. If most of your observations are in the range of 200 times magnification and below, then these are just what you want!
The Tardigrade (waterbear) photos were taken with green center stop only.
The next two photos depict pond debris while searching for tardigrades - the first in all natural light, the second with a green stop and yellow annulus. Which would you rather view when searching for tardigrades? These are followed by commercially produced slides of tilia stem, pumpkin seed, and pine leaf - all photos enhanced with our Rheinberg filters.
Remember, be sure of your filter size, as these are 32mm in diameter.
    O
ur techniques are professional and we use precision equipment. Instructions are included with your Rheinberg set!
Finally, we will unconditionally guarantee these filters for 90 days, as we want them to work for you.
