French Bulldog Nose Butter® For Your Frenchie's Rough, Dry NoseFrench Bulldogs and Nasal Hyperkeratosis
As you know, French Bulldogs have a predisposition toward having a rough, dry or crusty nose. Your Frenchie's nose may have just a bit of dryness or it may be covered in layers of crusty, barnacle looking crud (like pics below). This extreme dryness may be Nasal Hyperkeratosis, a condition of unknown origins that causes unchecked nasal tissue growth (more info in tabs below).
Our research has led us to believe Frenchies have a slightly depressed immune system which results in the drier nose predisposition. It is systemic, which means it cannot be CURED, but we can heal the actual dry nose with Nose Butter. This is also why you will need to use Nose Butter for maintenance.
A Healthy Nose Is A Big Deal To Your Frenchie
Your French Bulldog may not sniff more than a Cheeto that rolled under the sofa. But that doesn’t mean having a healthy nose isn't important. The moist skin tissue on their nose (nose leather) acts like flypaper and attracts info-packed scents from the air. If your dog’s nose is rough or dry, it can't attract the info needed for your dog to make decisions.
You know how we feel when we can't get a cellphone signal and you REALLY need directions? That's how your Frenchie feels when they aren't getting good info. Annoyed, maybe a bit off balance, irritable. Yes, that describes many of us, but we know lack of caffeine is causing it, our dogs do't know why they aren't getting their scoop!
Applying Your Frenchie's Nose Butter
Dab, Distract, Done! works for the majority of dogs. If you have an uncooperative dog there are more tips in the toggle bar/tabs below. Keep in mind, many flat-faced dogs loathe being high tightly, as their breathing is already compromised and nature is telling them to protect their airways. Our best tips are to warm the product, apply quickly and then distract your dog after application.
We get some feedback that dogs lick the product off, and have been asked if we can we make it taste bad. Well, no, as that could irritate already challenged noses. Use a combination of the distraction techniques; give treats, go for a walk or take some time and sit and pet your dog and play with them. Remember, sometimes we have to do what's in our dog's best interest, even if they aren't thrilled and we don't want to take the time.
French Bulldog All Natural Nose Butter
Frenchies burst into the spotlight with a sudden blast of popularity within the last few years! When I got my first Frenchie in the early 1990s they were ranked in the 80s in AKC popularity and now they are in the Top Five. With this popularity comes increased responsibility for those of us who have had these little dogs for decades to share the Frenchie care secrets.
