The HSE/NPL test slide contains five sets of line gratings with varying widths. This slide is designed to test the resolution of the objectives in your microscope system.

Notes from the technician who tested this slide for me:
This test slide is sufficient to ensure confidence in a phase contrast system and microscopist’s technique for asbestos work, based upon:
1) I was able to visualize group 4 with both the Nikon e50i and Meiji MT4200 phase configurations.
2) I was able to just barely visualize group 5 with our Olympus BHA with LB phase objective configuration.
3) A customer doing routine asbestos work was able to visualize group 4 with their Olympus CH2 phase configuration.
4) Group 5 typically is the qualifying level for certification – that group 4 can be visualized in comparison with a newer product where group 5 (and with a high-performance system, group 6), means that it’s good enough to assure you that your system and technique would perform adequately for asbestos work.
